Book Errata
« on: June 01, 2009, 12:19:47 PM »
Hey Tarun,

Picked up your book recently, wanted to ask:
Do you have location for book errata to be filed? Think many will find it helpful as they proceed through material.

Also, are you considering adding script samples online by QTP version that correspond with book samples? Finding some don't work.

Thanks!

Hi Rolando,

This post can be used for Book errata. As of now nothing has been reported. As far as downloading the samples is concerned I am working on the same and will let everyone know when the same is available

Hi Tarun...I was looking on page 307 and I think the line for disabling the security alert - certificate warning is missing a a value after the Internet Settings.

On the example in page 79, the inequality operator '<>' has mistakenly been written as '<' ... ?

In the same example, the following statement -
Code: [Select]
Execute dpObjName &"(""" & valArray(0) & """).Value = " & valArray(1)
has the quotes in the end missing.
Code: [Select]
Execute dpObjName &"(""" & valArray(0) & """).Value = " & """" & valArray(1) & """"

I believe these are errors.

On Page 38  Figure 5-2 and 5-3 have the same image.  Figure 5-3 appears to be the incorrect image.

On Page 58

In the "The Exists Method"  text is "LogErros" and it should be "LogErrors", I believe.

Thank You

On page 64 the comment reads:

'Save the retrurn value of the checkpoint call

Should be return instead of retrurn.

On Page 65 the code reads:

If actualHREF = expectedHREF AND actualTEXT = expectedHREF then

Should be  actualTEXT = expectedTEXT.

Thank You

Error on Example  on page: 275

The attachment object is an array so you must index the attachment that is being saved.  QTP trows an error as the object itself does not know the method SaveAsFile:

Example Code

 For Each attachment In email.Attachments
    email.SaveAsFile "c:\Test\" & attachment.FileName
 Next

Should be

For Each attachment In email.Attachments
    attachment.SaveAsFile "c:\Test\" & attachment.FileName
Next

Hi Tarun,

The counter i should be changed as j in below lines.

Code: [Select]

For j = 1 to iCount
sParamName = xmlCol.ChildElements.item(i).ElementName()
sParamValue = xmlCol.ChildElements.item(i).Value()
oDataTable.GetParameter(sParamName).Value = sParamValue
Next

Thanks,

Hi Tarun,
I just wanted to bring this to your attention,

In Page 258-The Excel Automation Model/Problem 23-6:
XlWorkSheet.Cells(iRow,iCols("Name"))="Name : "&iRow--------------------Here in this statement 'iCols' is not defined
anywhere and I guess that should be 'oCols' which is dictionary object variable defined here in this example.

Thanks

hi, Traun,
Page 233,
Problem 21-2:
The following code can't work
Code: [Select]
'Create and initialize and XMLData object, the write to a String
Set xmlDocument = XMLUtil.CreateXMLfromFile ("C:\source.xml")
sXML = xmlDocument.ToString

'Create a 2nd XMLData object using the String as the initializer
set xmlDoc2 = Document.CreateXML(sXML)
xmlDoc2.SaveFile "c:\destination.xml"
Set xmlDocument = Nothing
Set xmlDoc2 = Nothing
The QTP error message is: lack of object "Document".
So what's the correct code?
Thanks in advance!
